July 19 – The BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico, was rocking for the clash of Concacaf’s giants, World Champions USA and Olympic Champions Canada.

It was the final that everyone had expected and most had wanted to see. The US and Canada had dominated the competition from the start and they worked their routes to the final, neither team conceding a goal.

The US still haven’t conceded a goal, taking the regional honours and the automatic slot at the 2024 Olympics in Paris with a 1-0 win delivered by an Alex Morgan penalty.

Jamaica have been the big success story of this championship, starting off with a surprise 1-0 win over hosts Mexico, and finishing with World Cup qualification for the second successive time – no other Caribbean nation has qualified for a men’s or women’s World Cup twice – and a place on the podium.

Canada, with the exact same record as the USA, have gone all the way to the final unbeaten, scoring 12 goals without conceding any.

For the US it was very much job done, so far. Both teams had already qualified for the 2023 World Cup with the Costa Ricans making it for the second time in their history having qualified in 2015.
