Former Belgian boss Bossaert takes RBFA to task over ‘unfair’ dismissal

April 11 – Peter Bossaert (pictured) will not give up without a fight. The former CEO of the Belgian FA  (RBFA), is suing his former employer, claiming his reputation has been damaged.

Following an extraordinary board meeting, the RBFA dismissed Bossaert over his bonus structure, which he had reportedly modified without the approval of the federation’s board. Bossaert argues that “it is unacceptable that the RBFA is throwing away my good name and reputation.”

RBFA chairman Paul Van den Bulck acted when when he learned that Bossaert’s new contract almost guaranteed him a bonus of €100,000 on top of a salary of €500,000.

“The contract negotiations went completely according to the book. At the beginning of 2022, my contract was amended via an addendum, in consultation with the chairman and vice-chairman. This went in the same way as in 2018,” counters Bossaert. “It does ensure that compensation is maintained, depending on inflation.”

His lawyer added that the annual bonus had “targets attached to it, which were missing in the initial contract.”

Those targets however were almost guaranteed, and included convening the board of directors six times a year, delivering a by a third party on good governance, and generating a revenue of €15 million euros through UEFA income and sponsorships.

It was Bossaert who brought Van den Bulck to the FA, but their relationship had become strained in the months leading up to Bossaert’s exit.
