Turkey signs off official guarantees for 2028 and 2032 Euro bids

April 10 – Turkey has officially signed its bid documents for is a sixth consecutive attempt to host the Euro finals.

Turkey has submitted a bid to host both the 2028 and 2032 editions. The hosts will be awarded the tournaments in the autumn of this year.

The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu (pictured) signed the necessary government guarantees at a signing ceremony before they are delivered to UEFA on April 12, the submission deadline of the final bid dossiers.

Turkey has been unsuccessful on its previous five bids to host the Euro finals – 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. This time round it will be up against a combined UK and Ireland bid for 2028, and against Italy for 2032.

The official documents contain detailed information about the stadiums, accommodation, transport and urban infrastructure of the host cities.

Evaluating Turkey’s candidacy, Kasapoğlu stressed that Turkey is a sporting country and has everything it needs to host events like the European Championship. This year, Istanbul will host the Champions League final, which will be played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium on June 6.

Kasapoğlu added that Turkey has made significant progress in the country’s sports infrastructure facilities and sports legislation in the last nearly 20 years and that it has already hosted a number of major sports events.

“Our country produces athletes who are at the top of the world in various sports. Our success is not only on the sports field. We have raised the bar very high, especially in organizing international competitions. We host various top level competitions,” Kasapoğlu.

“The quality of our facilities, infrastructure, accommodation, young population… When you put it all together, we can say that our country shines like a star and is one of the most important sports destinations in the world. I think that Turkey can add important value to Euro 2028 and Euro 2032.”
