April 14 – Bayern Munich have dramatically dropped Sadio Mané and fined the Senegal forward following reports that he struck teammate Leroy Sané after Tuesday’s Champions League 3-0 loss to Manchester City.
According to German media, Sane suffered a cut lip in the altercation and the pair, who were also seen arguing on the pitch late in the game, had to be separated by teammates.
“Sadio Mane will not be included in the FC Bayern squad for this Saturday’s home match against 1899 Hoffenheim,” Bayern said in a statement.
“This is due to his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. Mane will also be given a fine.”
Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga standings with a two-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund, did not provide any details
Mane, a two-time African footballer of the year who joined Bayern last year, reportedly complained about the way Sane spoke to him after the defeat at the Etihad Stadium. Bayern face City in the return leg on Wednesday.
Suspending Mané adds to an unwanted series of issues at Bayern Munich ahead of crucial games as they try to retain the Bundesliga title.
Julian Nagelsmann spent the final weeks of his coaching tenure hunting a “mole” he believed was leaking tactical secrets, then was abruptly fired and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
In Tuchel’s first four games, Bayern have gone from chasing three titles to focusing on the Bundesliga after a German Cup exit and a heavy loss to City which leaves their Champions League campaign all but over.
