April 17 – The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is to set a minimum wage for players in the country’s women’s top flight, the Indian Women’s League (IWL).

The top eight participating teams in the IWL will be required to have a minimum of 10 Indian players on an annual contract worth a minimum of ₹3.2 lakhs ($3,908), said AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey following an AIFF executive committee meeting.

“We believe these decisions will attract more girls to play football and will help the growth of the women,” said Chaubey.

April 14 – A bookmaker has allegedly approached two players at Delhi FC in the Indian I-League Second Division in an attempt to fix matches, Minerva club owner Ranjit Bajaj has claimed.

In March the players were contacted multiple times and promised they could “make a lot of money” by the match fixer, who even wrote to the players explaining that I-League 2 matches are beamed into betting shops and so attract interest from punters.

April 14 – Mongolia opened its Air Dome last week with its U-17 women’s national team playing Hong Kong in a friendly.

It was the first use of the FIFA-funded facility that will provide cover for the National Team Training Centre. For seven months of the year the country experiences temperatures that dip below zero. For five of those months temperatures never go above zero.

March 24 – China’s scandal-plagued federation has been rocked by new corruption probes into its chiefs of discipline and competition.

The sports ministry said that Wang Xiaoping, director of the FA’s Disciplinary Committee, and Huang Song, were both “suspected of serious violations” of law and discipline — the government’s usual bywords for corruption.

The announcements said Wang and Huang were cooperating with investigators but gave no details about the charges against them.

March 14 – After months of speculation, Iran have named Amir Ghalenoei (pictured) as the successor to Carlos Queiroz to lead Team Melli until the 2023 Asian Cup that will be played in Qatar next January.

“Based on the technical and expert review and the agreement made, Mr. Amir Ghalenoei, the valuable coach of our country is selected as the head coach of the national football team,” Iran’s Football Federation said in a statement.

March 9 – An Indonesian court has handed prison sentences to two match officials after finding them guilty of negligence over one of the world’s deadliest stadium disasters.

The October 2022 derby in Malang, East Java, at the Kanjuruhan stadium between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya ended in chaos with 135 spectators killed, many crushed as they fled for exits after police fired tear gas into the crowd.

Match organiser Abdul Haris was found guilty “due to his negligence causing people to die and get severely injured”,

February 16 – The Chinese Football Association (CFA) have demanded top flight men’s clubs establish a women’s team as part of license requirements to compete in the 2023 season. 

It’s not the first time the CFA has taken this step. In 2019, the governing body imposed a similar rule.

February 16 – Erick Thohir, a senior cabinet minister and a former chairman of Inter Milan, is the new head of Indonesian football with the task of totally reforming the game months after the country suffered one of the world’s deadliest stadium stampedes.

The October disaster at the Kanjuruhan stadium in Malang, East Java, killed 135 people and prompted widespread concerns about safety standards. An investigation concluded excessive and indiscriminate tear gas use was the main cause.
